Slot Machine Myths
In our desire to win and win it big, we sometimes tell ourselves stories that reassure us we have a chance at winning. But that’s about it, stories we tell ourselves with no evidence or proof that these things really work. I call such “stories” as slot machine myths. It would do you good to read on to avoid looking foolish and believing something that doesn’t really work.
The Random Number Generators
Some people say that winning slot machines can be spotted easily. They are slot machines that are located in aisles or public places. This is definitely a myth. Any slot machine is controlled by RNG or Random Number Generators. These RNGs are responsible for the winning or losing of any slot machine player. They are, as the name implies, random. Nobody can spot them with just one look.
The belief that casino owners have the ability to loosen or tighten a slot machine from an office or switch is definitely not true. To change a slot machine’s payouts casinos need to change the computer chip installed inside the slot machine. This cannot be done by a mere flick of a switch.
If a slot machine has not been giving any wins then it is due for the jackpot. Again, this is only a myth. The slot machine’s winning or losing is determined by the RNG and not by the number of wins it has already given out. A slot machine that already gave out the jackpot and the one that haven’t given anyone a dime have equal chances of winning the jackpot. It’s all up to luck.
Pull Arm or Spin Button?
When you pull the slot machine’s arm it will give you better chances of winning than if you press the spin button. This is again another myth. It doesn’t matter if you pull or press the arm or the spin button. These things are only slot machine mechanisms to start the spin. They have nothing to do with the odds of winning or losing in the slot machine.
Some people say that betting hot coins improves your chances of winning in slot machines. This is definitely a myth. Again, we go back to the basic fact that slot machines are governed by RNGs and not by the temperature of the coins. It’s hilarious that some people still “warm” their hands or coins in hopes of a slot machine jackpot. Don’t be caught doing this. You know better now.
It is believed that casinos set the slot machines to give more paybacks during weekends. This is of course, again, not true. Casinos do not do this. You have the same chance of winning any day of the week. Weekend or not.
