New Blackjack Tournaments
Leeper, 54, a retired real estate shareholder from Vancouver, Wash, was in the midst of scores of hopefuls competing for the last six slots in this Saturday’s World Series of Blackjack qualifying competition at the Lucky Eagle Casino. The winner of the 84-person tournament will walk away with $2,500 in prize money, an all-expenses-paid trip to Las Vegas, and a 1-in-40 shot at a $500,000 top prize in the World Series of Blackjack tournament, which will be taped and aired later this year on the Game Show Network.
“They’re also getting individual training in tournament blackjack,” said Gary Schneider, a casino commissioner who’s running Lucky Eagle’s competition. “Blackjack statistically gives you a lot better chances than a lot of the other games, as long as you play with basic strategy.” Blackjack player Saroeun Teng, 25, of Federal Way said he likes to poker tournaments aggressively.
